How this works
The checks use the room guidelines published by simulator retailers and launch monitor makers, plus each unit's stated placement distance.
- Depth adds about 1 ft behind the screen, 10 to 12 ft from the ball to the screen, and the space behind the ball. That space is at least 4 ft (7 ft is better), or the launch monitor's own distance if it sits behind you.
- Width needs about 10 ft for one-handed play with the mat offset, and about 14 ft for a centered mat that works for lefties and righties.
- Ceiling: 8 ft is the floor, 9 ft works for most golfers and 10 ft suits taller golfers and full driver swings. Ceiling-mounted units need their stated mounting height.
Swing styles differ, so before you buy, swing your driver in the space slowly. Placement figures can change with firmware and models; confirm them in the manufacturer's manual.
